Acanthite

Ag2S

These samples of acanthite are displayed in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. Acanthite is a sulfide mineral of silver with the composition Ag2S. The sample at left is about 5x8 cm and is from Colquechaca, Potosi, Bolivia.

This sample of acanthite is from Guanajuato, Mexico. It is about 10 cm across.

The sample below is acanthite with stephanite and polybasite. It is from Freiberg, Sachsen, Germany. It is about 5x8 cm.

The sample at right is acanthite with silver. It is from Santa Eulalia, Chihuahua, Mexico. It is about 9 x 20cm.

This sample of acanthite is from Las Chipas mine, Arizpe, Sonora, Mexico. It is about 4x8 cm.
