The Bird That Came to Breakfast

We enjoyed the birds that came to the campsites. This one was extremely tame. We had arisen early to make the drive to Pilatus and Engleberg. June 3, 1967

Mount Pilatus Standing in the Mist

This is one of my favorite pictures of the trip. When we got up early in the morning, Mount Pilatus just seemed to be standing over us in the morning mist. It was like it was floating. June 3, 1967

Road From Lucerne to Alpnach

We left camp at about 7:15 AM and drove through Lucerne to Alpnach. We had planned to drive to Engelberg first but the day was so fine and clear that we decided to go up Pilatus. We reached the station at 7:45 and I sauntered leisurely over to find out when the next rack railway train went up. I found that it left at 7:50 so I raced back to the car and we got our stuff and got on the train -- it pulled out almost immediately. June 3, 1967

Cable Car Up Mount Pilatus

As we took the rack railway up Pilatus, we saw these folks taking the faster (and more expensive) cable car to the top. The cable car starts from a base station in Krienz. June 3, 1967

Clowning in Snow Atop Mount Pilatus

Just below the summit station of the rack railway up Mt. Pilatus, this couple was running down a steep bank of snow. It looked like fun, but unless they knew better than I did what was over the next ridge of snow... it could have been a thousand foot drop off. June 3, 1967
