By Faith: Arise and Build
Churchwide Banquet, December 8, 1985
Like the other children's ministries, it puts us in touch with children and families |
we might not reach in other ways. |
We have also engaged in ministry to our neighborhoods |
with backyard Bible clubs. |
In those clubs and in Vacation Bible School, fellowships, and other activities, the ministry through Christian puppetry has |
delighted the hearts of many people, young and old. |
Under the leadership of the Peals and the Floyds, this ministry has touched many lives for Christ. |
At the North Georgia Fair, |
the message of Christ is communicated by the puppets, |
by our young choirs, |
and by the handing out of literature and cups of cold water, all designed to provide the opportunity for a word of witness. |
As another specific ministry to our younger children, a Children's Church service was begun in 1974 for 4 and 5 year olds during the 11-12 hour on Sunday Morning. At times the children have come to the sanctuary for a childrens sermon or a choir performance before going to their special service. |
Baby dedication day celebrates our newest arrivals. |
Mission activities for GAs |
and RAs |
have sought to make our children aware of the spread of the gospel around the world. |
Sports programs have served as a drawing card and outreach to the young men of our area. |
Other ministries have sought to reach special needs. Wesley and Ruth Floyd have served to meet the needs of deaf persons. |
Our church has reached out with a class for exceptional students and needs to renew that effort. |
We have an opportunity for witness and ministry to internationals in our community who come to our international English class to learn to speak and read English. |
It has been a joy to be "on mission" to the world in our own community by this means. Our people have also embarked on mission trips to Vermont, Tennessee, and most recently to Hubbard Lake, Michigan this past summer. |
On mission to our own community are the members of our current Continuous Witness Training group. |
The CWT group meets each Sunday for on-the-job training in sharing Christ. |
Since Steve and Terri Cooper joined the First Baptist family in 1982, we have had their able help in the educational program and in the planning of spiritual growth activities for our youth. |
