Fairfield Bay and the Hills of Arkansas

Arriving after dark last night from Newport, we crashed and got a good night's sleep. When we awoke, we were anxious to see where we were and what it looked like.

This is the view that greeted us from our back deck - unbroken green trees and hills to the horizon. It reminded us very much of Bent Tree.

After breakfast we explored the area and Brenda checked out things at the visitor's center while I chased these brilliant yellow butterflies.

This is the view of our unit at Fairfield Bay Mountain Ranch resort. At right is Rod on the balcony of our place with the view of the wooded hills.

This was our day to relax and explore the area. As the day drew to a close, the pink sky promised a nice sunset. The view from our deck was directly toward the sunset.

Soon we had the full big red sun in view and it started dropping rapidly.

As the last bit of the sun was about to slip below the horizon, we briefly entertained the hope that we might have green flash conditions, as we had at Bent Tree four years ago. That didn't happen, but it was a memorable sunset nevertheless.

This morning we enjoyed the view of the clouds in the valleys and made plans to drive to Mountain View to visit with Bobby and Suzanne.

The house is on a hillside looking over the river to the mountains beyond.

We ate lunch with this nice view through their big glass windows and prepared to go exploring.

We walked along this walkway to get to the outlet of Blanchard Springs.
