Rod's meeting of the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) was held at the University of Utah. It sits on the mountainside overlooking Salt Lake City, as the location indicated by the big "U" at left.

My workshop was on lecture demonstrations in physics. Zig Peacock of the University of Utah is one of the legendary physics demonstrators of the country, and he was joined by an enthusiastic group of other physics demonstrators from all over the U.S. It was an informative day and lots of fun.

One of the things demonstrated that I had never seen before was a set of brass Helmholtz resonators. Different sizes resonate at different frequencies, and such resonators were reportedly used as the first tuned hearing aids.

Brenda did reconnaisance in the morning, and after my workshop she took me around to see what she had found. The two most impressive things to us were Temple Square and the fantastic new public library. Part of its remarkable architecture is shown at left.
