Knees In the Sand

Children's Camp, First Baptist Mableton, at St. George Island, Florida

July 31-August 4, 2006

On Monday, July 31, our caravan of four vehicles transported 33 children to the St. George Christian Camp, located on the bay side of St. George Island. It shares facilities with the First Baptist Church of St. George. This is a view of the bay and bridge from the camp grounds.

Our camp theme was "Knees in the Sand", taken from Acts 21:5 "All the disciples and their wives and children accompanied us out of the city, and there on the beach we knelt to pray."

We arrived about supper time and gathered in the dining room of the camp. Ruth Floyd and Pat Peal had arrived the day before, and had supper ready.
It was a time for renewing old friendships and making new friends. Some of the children knew each other from our Summer Day Camp, and some were from neighboring churches like Orange Hill Baptist. We unloaded luggage and were assigned to our cabins after supper.

It was sunset by the time we got the gear into the cabins, but the children were delighted to be able to walk on the beach for a few minutes before dark after being cooped up in the vehicles all day. They found hermit crabs, fiddler crabs, and small live conch and enjoyed wading in the edge of the water.

It was nearly dark when we got all the excited kids off the beach and back to the cabins. We had movie time as the final event of the day.

After the movie we settled in to the cabins for the night.
