Georgia Baptist College of Nursing Alumni Day
October 19, 2018
| Perhaps the greatest joy of Alumni Day is just visiting with former classmates and colleagues. Kathy Sorrell Sitton, Gayle Peters Kimball, Brenda Duncan Nave, Jeanne Gaberideal Regan, Peggy Cooper. |
Brenda had a good time visiting with Debbie Miller and Edie Fox.
| When we first reached the Mercer Atlanta campus we gathered in a lecture hall of the College of Nursing. Dean Linda Strait introduced Susan Gunby, who presented an excellent retrospective of the history of the Nursing program back to its initiation at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Atlanta in about 1905. Susan noted that over 8500 nurses had graduated from the program. |
We celebrated with the oldest graduate in attendance, from the class of 1948!
This is one of the images used as Susan described the growth of the facilities and program. She had stories about Mrs Ramsbotham and about Dana Hudson as we celebrated the history. She described the various collaborations during the program's history such as the partnership with Tift and the partnership with Georgia State University as they started the BSN program. She participated in the program at Georgia State and acknowledged that Rod had taught her and a couple of others present (in the Physics for the Health Sciences course in the 1970s).
After her excellent presentation, Susan asked for comments and got an enthusiastic response.
| We transitioned from the College of Nursing to the Student Center for our lunch, and on the way passed this sculpture, which I have always enjoyed. |
In the banquet area was a special remembrance of Merle Griffin. Charles was there and a remembrance was part of the program in honor of Merle who had served on the Alumni Board for many years. Brenda served several years on that board with her, and of course we had known Charles and Merle for many years in the Georgia Tech BSU Alumni group. Brenda and Rod, Frank & Babs Gudger, and Aubrey & Carol Bush had sat together at Clarkston Baptist Church at her memorial service last year.
We celebrated with the Class of 1968 on their 50th Anniversary. Susan Gunby was in that class, 2nd from right front row.
