Stories and Songs

December 9, 2020

On Wednesday evening, the youth group assisted by the Awanas staged their second annual "Stories and Songs" program to celebrate the birth of Christ.

The program started with a dramatic reading by Marina Thompson, and then Becky Ridgway got the Awanas involved. She sent two or three of the Awanas into the audience to pick out someone to play one of the roles in the Christmas story. First picked were Brenda and Roger Speight as Mary and Joseph. Then they picked five people to play the animals around the manger. Then there were four angels. Projected slides indicated which group was being selected as they came forward to the "manger".

Next to be picked were the sheperds on the left above, with large candy canes for their shepherd staffs. Pastor Doug was one of the shepherds. He has been doing morning devotionals on Facebook and had just done one on the spiritual significance attached to the candy cane.

Roger and Brenda (aka Joseph and Mary) focus on the baby Jesus, with animals and angels looking on.

The Awanas were gathered to the left front of the auditorium, and were called upon to go pick out more of the participants around the manger.

Becky commissions Awanas to go to the audience and pick out more participants around the manger.

The last group to be picked were the Three Wise Men.

The youth did readings and introduced the different groups that were part of the story of Jesus' birth and the gathering around the manger. Mike Davis organized the youth participation and led us in Christmas carols during the celebration.
