Summer Activities 2018

We enjoy watching the birds at breakfast time, and usually the hummingbirds come at that time. This hummingbird came for lunch on July 12 at close to 3pm.

The photo below was shot at 1/1000 second, which is usually not fast enough to stop a hummingbird's wing, but apparently I caught it near the top stop of the wing.

The redhead (red-bellied sapsucker) is one of our favorite birds. He usually comes for suet, but lately has taken a fancy to our raw peanuts that we put out mostly for the titmouse. He visited us on July 15 at lunchtime.

The smaller birds come to get one peanut and fly off. But big red here is able to swallow one while sitting there, and seems quite pleased with himself for having done so. I have seen him take as many as three.
Brenda and Rod went to Bent Tree on July 17 for a day of cleanup. Javier Lopez and a group of youth from Iglesia de Mableton were planning to have an overnight at our house on July 20. We had a full day of vacuuming, washing linens, raking the driveway, and general cleanup. We enjoyed this brief glance of a doe and faun on our way out. We stopped at Cracker Barrel, Canton, for supper on the way home.
