Father's Day
June 21, 2020
Brenda and Rod and Mark went to Jeff and Darla's where Darla had prepared a pancake breakfast for us. Still nervous about going to any restaurant because of the continuing Covid crisis. Enjoyed breakfast, and then had our Zoom session with our Sunday School class back in Mableton at 8:30 (9:30 Mableton time). We enjoyed the fellowship with Stella Davis, Bob and Gail Wade, Chris and Karla Ayers, Roger Frater, Doug and Kelley Brandon. We hosted the Zoom session from Jeff's "studio" he has created in their living room around his computer. He has been teaching his classes and doing counseling from home at that location.
Jeff and Darla left early for church at Northshore where they had a part in welcoming the worshippers, who had made reservations to attend. They had about 200 people. We had thought we would go, but had forgotten about the reservation requirement. That worked out alright - we enjoyed the worship service on screen with the girls.
With sunshine at midday, they got back into the knife throwing.
We now had three targets. It was not easy to be consistent, but Mark had enough practice that sometimes he would nail several knives in a row.
| Mark had also brought a couple of throwing hatchets, and Jordan seemed to have the best knack for throwing them. |
It was not easy to get the knives to turn correctly to stick, and more difficult to get them to stick in the target! So there was a sense of accomplishment when you got one in the target.
| Jordan found that she had the knack for throwing the axes, so she was our axe ace. |
Mark had found the knife throwing to be a lot of fun during his Covid confinement, so he brought them along. He may have been surprised by how much the girls enjoyed the knife and axe throwing.
| It was interesting that this knife-throwing involvement served as an excellent catalyst to get us all together and talking. We were really pleased that Mark made the trip and that he had lots of opportunity to talk with the girls. It was a great time of visiting. |
Ashleigh, Jordan and Elyse made a trip to put together gifts for Dad. We had a good time of celebration together with Dads Jeff and Rod.
| In the afternoon we got Jeff and Mark out in the front yard to get some pictures with Dad. It was a privilege to be with both sons and all three granddaughters. |

| Later in the day we enjoyed a fine lemon meringue pie that Elyse made. |
Kudos to Elyse for making a fine pie. We all enjoyed it.
Rod and Brenda's 58th Anniversary, June 22, 2020
Darla prepared a wonderful meal and our family gathered in a time of celebration of our 58th Anniversary. With the celebration of Ashleigh's graduation, Father's Day, and now our anniversary, this had truly been a memorable weekend. We felt very blessed.
