Tech BSU Alumni Communication in the Corona Era

We had planned a large Georgia Tech BSU alumni gathering in Hiawassee on April 16, but with the entire state of Georgia on a basic "shelter in place" lockdown to mitigate the spread of the corona virus, we started looking for alternate ways to communicate.

Ron Jones had been experimenting with Zoom and had used it with his youth Sunday School class at his church, so he took the lead in exploring what we could do with Zoom.

Ron set up a Zoom meeting for the group on Thursday, April 16, at 4pm and we gathered online.

We had a big group and an enjoyable interaction for about an hour and a half.

We were delighted that we could get Sue Woolf online with us and she seemed to enjoy the occasion. (Sue had been brought online by her caregiver Mika Conyers, whose name shows in that photo.) We made up signs like "We love you, Sue!" and had a good converation with her. We were also very pleased that her sons Bill and David and their wives were also online with us. Rudy Matzner had come to Tech in about 1952, so he made the comment that he had known Sue longer than anyone online. But he got countered by Sue's oldest son Bill who had known her a couple of years longer by birth! So David made the comment that this meant he had known Sue the third longest, having been born after 1952.
