Mark and Marty Cut Up a Tree (or Three)

April 13, 2020

While Brenda and I were finishing supper about dark a few days before this, we heard a big "whump" and found that a tall maple tree from just behind our back fence had fallen across our yard. It's tip wasn't more than 20ft from the house - it was about a 100ft tree. It was part of a triple trunk tree and the other two parts of the triple tree had fallen away from our yard some weeks ago, but this remaining trunk looked healthy.

Early the next morning, Marty was out there trimming off the limbs, and then on the morning of the 13th, Mark came with his chain saw and they began to cut up the tree.

With the limbs trimmed off, you can see that it fell in a very fortunate direction, doing no damage except to the corner of our boat flower bed and one of our bird feeders.

With Mark on the chainsaw and Marty helping, they made quick progress with cutting up the tree.

With the main trunk cut up, they begin to load it up for transport to Marty's wood stash.

Beginning to move the wood.

Mark begins to saw up the trunk beyond our fence.

Pretty fast chainsaw work!

Lots of fireplace lengths.

Mark begins to cut some thin sections with the chainsaw to use for knife-throwing targets.

Lots of fireplace lengths.

While Mark continues to cut "gorilla cookies", Marty begins to split some of the larger pieces.

Marty begins the process of transporting the firewood to his stacks.

But they weren't through with their wood cutting! Mark cut down the two trees that Brenda had wanted to get down. I was impressed that he dropped them almost perfectly where he was aiming and with no damage to anything in the yard. Then they took on the process of cutting them up and hauling the firewood logs off. Quite a day's work, and we were very appreciative.
