Family on Petrified Logs

We were surprised to see the size of the petrified logs as we entered the Petrified Forest. This was at Crystal Forest. Rod, Brenda, Jeff, Mark on August 4, 1982.

Terrain on the Blue Mesa Loop

The Blue Mesa loop is the first major loop in Petrified Forest after passing Newspaper Rock. Note the fragments of petrified logs scattered down the hillsides. This view is toward the southeast as we entered the loop at the end of the short side road. August 4, 1982.

Terrain on the Blue Mesa Loop

This view is directly west from near the end of the loop. It shows some of the characteristic blue color of the small mesas. August 4, 1982.

Lizard on the Blue Mesa Loop

There was not a lot of wildlife to be seen in the Petrified Forest, but an occasional lizard like this one would poke its head out. The Blue Mesa loop is the first major loop in Petrified Forest after passing Newspaper Rock. August 4, 1982.
