RA Hike up Stone Mountain
October 9, 1999
We had our pancake breakfast at the church and headed for Stone Mountain for a hike up the mountain.
| We drove to Stone Mountain and parked near the Civil War Museum. The boys gathered on a cannon, and we had enough boys to cover it. Johnny Huffman and Mark Bryant were leaders. |
On the very short segment of flat trail that we encountered. Matthew Bryant left, Buddy Stephens, Devin Powell, ?.
| Certainly a solid platform for their posturing with hundreds of feet of granite beneath them. |
On the way up the side of the mountain, there are interesting jumbles of rock to climb around on.
| Matthew Bryant comes crawling out of a rock tunnel he has found. |
They found the rock tunnels to be great fun, so we spent a while there.
| As we neared the top of the mountain, it became very foggy and even rained on us some. |
Matthew and Buddy forge ahead and reach the top in the fog.
This is certainly not the view you hope for when you have hiked to the top of Stone Mountain, but we all made it up in the fog.
| We made it back down the mountain! Looks like they are trying to throw Buddy under the Stone Mountain train, but the boys all seemed to enjoy the trek. At least it was a memorable hike up Stone Mountain. |
