Grand Tetons

First View of the Tetons

This is our first view of the Grand Tetons over Jackson Lake as we emerged from Yellowstone Park in the late afternoon.

We drove south out of Yellowstone and skirted Lake Jackson in sight of the dramatic Grand Tetons. It was a different view in rain and with heavy clouds - but we looked forward to exploring them more tomorrow.

Driving to Moran Junction, we found the KOA Campground about 5 miles east of there and settled for the night. We got a beautiful view of the Tetons from the campsite. Even with all the clouds it was a nice sunset. It was wet and cold, so we used our electric blanket again. August 22, 1982.

Grand Tetons in First Light

Rising at 5AM we headed for the Tetons before sunrise. We returned to Moran Junction and then to Jackson Lake Junction, turning left to go down Teton Park Road. At that point I could stand it no longer and stopped to take some tripod shots of the Grand Tetons in the early light. They stood above us, ghostly, with fog in the valleys. It was still so dark I took 15sec time exposures. August 23, 1982.

Sunrise from the Jackson Valley

Dawn near Jackson Lake Junction, on the Teton Park Road. I was intrigued by the fog above all the streams and above Jackson Lake. August 23, 1982.
