Mark and Jeff with Brass Mule

Mark and Jeff pose with the brass mule in the lobby of the lodge on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. It is a tribute to the mules who have carried riders and supplies down the trails all these years. August 9, 1982.

The Lodge, North Rim Grand Canyon

We had a wonderful breakfast here with a grand view of the Grand Canyon. After taking most of our meals in the campgrounds, it was pleasant to sit down to a breakfast of fresh buckwheat pancakes and look out over the canyon. The boys seemed to enjoy it as much as Brenda and I did, so the pleasant memory of that occasion lingers. August 9, 1982.

North Rim Grand Canyon View

This is the view of the Grand Canyon, North Rim from near the lodge on Bright Angel Point. This was the view from out breakfast spot in the lodge shown above. August 9, 1982.

North Rim Grand Canyon View

How's this for a breakfast view?! This was the scene out the window of the lodge on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon as we ate breakfast. The remarkable large green cones of this tree highlighted the beauty of the canyon. August 9, 1982.

Jeff at Edge of North Rim

Jeff sits on the edge of the Grand Canyon, North Rim just outside the lodge where we had breakfast. August 9, 1982.

Rod and Mark, North Rim

Mark helps Rod set up tripod for group shots on North Rim, Grand Canyon. On the ground is Rod's backpack full of camera gear - the others had to carry the lunch, his pack was full of camera stuff. But he had to be alert for the everpresent squirrels like the one below. August 9, 1982.

Golden Mantled Ground Squirrel

On the North Rim of the Grand Canyon as on the south, there were an abundance of squirrels looking for handouts. I take this one to be a golden mantled ground squirrel and I don't believe we saw one on the South Rim. August 9, 1982.
