Number Systems

This table can be used for active exploration of the common number bases used in electronics: binary (base=2), octal (base = 8), decimal (base = 10), and hexadecimal (base = 16).

Positive integer only
BINARY
Limited to 16 bits, 0's or 1's only.
HEXADECIMAL
Combination of letters A through
F and integers.
OCTAL
Positive integers, 0 through 7
BCD
Limited to four decimal digits.
Output only: will not accept input.

The field for Binary Coded Decimal (BCD) numbers is calculated from any of the other bases, but no calculation routine is included here for conversion from BCD to the other forms.
