Allanite

Ca(Ce,La)(Al, Fe)3(SiO4)3(OH)

This sample of allanite is displayed in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. Allanite is a silicate mineral but contains the rare elements cerium and lanthanum with the composition Ca(Ce,La)(Al, Fe)3(SiO4)3(OH). This sample is about 12x12 cm and is from Franklin, New Jersey. It also contains the mineral Microcline.
