Kasolite

Pb(UO2)SiO4.H2O

This sample of kasolite is displayed in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. Kasolite is a silicate mineral of uranium and lead with the composition Pb(UO2)SiO4.H2O. The sample at left is about 8 cm across and is from Shinkolobwe mine, Shaba, D. R. Congo.

The orange color is similar to that of the radioactive fiestaware dishes, so perhaps this mineral is one of those used to get the dramatic orange color.
