Milarite

(K,Na)Ca2(Be,Al)3Si12O30.2H2O

This sample of milarite is displayed in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. Milarite is a silicate mineral with six of the big-8 elements plus beryllium with the composition (K,Na)Ca2(Be,Al)3Si12O30.2H2O. The sample at left is about 20 cm across and is from Guanajuato, Mexico. It is described as milarite with orthoclase.

The milarite sample at right is about 5 cm across and is from Val Giuv, Tavetsch, Grissons, Switzerland. It is described as milarite with chlorite. The milarite sample at left is about 2 cm across and is from Jagaurassu, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
