Pseudomalachite

Cu5(PO4)2(OH)4

This sample of pseudomalachite is displayed in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. Pseudomalachite is a phosphate mineral of copper with composition Cu5(PO4)2(OH)4. This specimen is about 4x6 cm wide and is from L'ubietova, Slovensko, Slovakia. As suggested by the name, it is similar to malachite as a copper compound but is a phosphate while malachite is a carbonate.

This sample of pseudomalichite is about 5x8 cm and is from D. R. Congo.
