Smithsonite from Namibia

The varieties of smithsonite, ZnCO3, shown here are all from Tsumeb, Namibia. They are on display in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. The size of this sample is about 12x7 cm.

This sample of at left above is about 4x10 cm and has the appearance of stalagmites. The green sample on the right is about 11x13 cm in size.

The colors of the zinc carbonate mineral range through the spectrum from green to pink. The pink sample at left is about 13x13 cm in size, wheras the slender white spears above are around a half centimeter in diameter.
