Sulfur

Sulfur often occurs in almost pure form, but large crystals like this are rare. This sample, displayed in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, originated in Cozzodizi, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. The sample is 8-10cm across.

" Sulfur is always yellow. It has been mined in Sicily since Roman times, when it was used to make medicines and incendiary devices. Today, most industrial products require sulfur in one form or another for their manufacture."
