Uvite

Uvite is a silicate which contains boron and magnesium with composition Ca(Mg,Fe)3Al5Mg(BO3)3Si6O18(OH)4. Uvite is a member of the tourmaline group. This sample is about 10x10 cm and is from Brumado, Bahia, Brazil. It is described as uvite with magnesite. It is on display at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.

This uvite sample is about 20x24 cm and is from Brumado, Bahia, Brazil. It is described as uvite with dolomite. The single crystal below is about 2x2 cm and is from Landali mine, Losa Ganoi, Tanzania.

The uvite sample above is about 6x10 cm and is from Pierrepont, New York. It is described as "uvite with quartz". The unite sample at right is about 10x15 cm and is from Gouverneur, New York.
