Wollastonite

Wollastonite is silicate of calcium with the composition CaSiO3. This sample is about 7x7 cm and is from Natural Bridge, New York. These samples are displayed in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.

Pyroxmangite

Pyroxmangite is silicate of manganese with the composition MnSiO3. This sample is about 9x8 cm and is from Taguchi mine, Shidara, Japan.

Rhodonite

Rhodonite is a silicate with the composition (Mn,Fe,Mg,Ca)SiO3. The sample above left is formed with galena. It is about 4x8 cm and is from North mine, Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia. The sample at right is about 6x6 cm and the accompanying gem is labeled 4.9 carats. They are from the same area in Australia.

This sample of rhodonite is on display at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. The sample size is about 15x9 cm. It is from the Chiurucu mine, Huanzala, Peru. These crystals get their color from manganese. The sample was recovered from a silver and tungsten mine.

This sample is described as rhodonite with calcite and franklinite. It is from Franklin, NJ. The sample size is about 20x25 cm.

Chondrodite


Chondrodite is a silicate with the composition (Mg,Fe)5(SiO4)2(F,OH)2. This sample is about 7x9 cm and is from Tilly Foster mine, Brewster, New York. The red crystals are about a cm in size.
