LaurenciumNamed for the American physicist Ernest Lawrence, this element was discovered in 1961 at the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory, California. A mixture of californium isotopes was bombarded with boron ions to produce short-lived lawrencium isotopes. The most stable of the isotopes was lawrencium-260.
