Having booked another Fly-Drive package to Hawaii, we once again left Honolulu behind to fly to the Big Island.
We drove to the area of the Kilauea Crater and were soon driving through a surreal landscape of black lava. The road is cut through the lava flow at the south end of the Kilauea Caldera.
We drove to the black sand beach at Kalapana - and it was really black!
Brenda is standing at the entrance to the famous "Painted Church of Kalapana", surrounded by lava which has flowed up to the front door!
