Avalanche Shelter on Flexen PassSizable stretches of the main road over Flexen Pass were dug into the rock of the mountain to protect the road from the frequent avalanches. In the view below we are looking back from the Arlberg Road to the Flexen Road. This long stretch was almost completely "bunkered in" to shelter from the fury of the avalanches. June 16, 1967 |

Summit of the Arlberg PassAfter we made our loop through the countryside, we traveled back over the Arlberg Pass and it was really a revelation to see what we had missed the first time in the snow and fog. It was covered with a heavy blanket of snow and was really beautiful - almost as spectacular as the Flexen. We saw terrific mountain scenery on this crossing, whereas we had seen only snow, fog and the back of a truck the first time. June 16, 1967 |

Hayfield and Mountain Near ImstAfter we made our loop through the countryside, we traveled back over the Arlberg Pass and it was really a revelation to see what we had missed the first time in the snow and fog. It was covered with a heavy blanket of snow and was really beautiful - almost as spectacular as the Flexen. We saw terrific mountain scenery on this crossing, whereas we had seen only snow, fog and the back of a truck the first time. We drove again the road through Landeck to Imst - through all the road work. It was much more pleasant this time - there was so much beautiful scenery that we missed on the first trip. Hayfield Near ImstAfter making a loop from our campsite at Imst, Austria we returned to the campground late in the afternoon. This is the view of the hayfield and surrounding mountains from the campground. We were familiar with the hayfield, but we had camped there two days in pouring rain and this was the first time we had seen the mountains. June 16, 1967
