Camping at Imst, Austria

Brenda fixes breakfast on a bright sunny morning at the campground in Imst, Austria. The sunshine was certainly welcome - we spent two days here in pouring down rain. But this morning was beautiful and we were planning a trip down the Otztal (valley of the Otz River). Note our British car, the Morris Oxford we bought at auction in Wales and kept for the year there.

This was one of the nicest campgrounds we stayed in. It had been very attractive even on the two rainy days, but it wasn't until the previous afternoon that we had realized that we were ringed by snow-capped mountains. June 17, 1967

Brenda at Campsite in Imst, Austria

Brenda fixes breakfast on a bright sunny morning at the campground in Imst, Austria. The sunshine was certainly welcome - we spent two days here in pouring down rain. But this morning was beautiful and we were planning a trip down the Otztal (valley of the Otz River).

We had borrowed the tent from Professor John Sheridan, Rod's director of research at the University College of North Wales in Bangor. It had served us well, and we were certainly pleased that it was waterproof since we had had two days of rain. June 17, 1967

Town of Imst, Austria

This was a brand-new view of Imst for us, even though we had been camped there for two days. It had poured rain on us for two days, and we could only see things at ground level. It had been very attractive even on the two rainy days, but it wasn't until the previous afternoon that we had realized that we were ringed by snow-capped mountains.

The town of Imst was within walking distance of the place where we camped. We enjoyed the view of the orderly haystacks all around us, and the churches really highlighted the views of the towns. June 17, 1967

Crucifix in Otztal

As in other places in Austria, we noted a large number of carved wooden crucifixes and other small shrines in the fields and by the roadside. The Austrians are Roman Catholic, and by external evidences must be rather religious. June 17, 1967

Chapel in Otztal

This tiny chapel was beside the road as we drove down the Otztal. Note the waterfall above it. June 17, 1967

Driving Along the Otz River

We were headed down the Otztal (valley of the Otz River) toward the town of Solden. Our Morris Oxford is parked along the road with the river beside it. Snow capped mountains were almost always in view. June 17, 1967
