Hidden Lake on the Logan Pass trail

July 30, 2009

We are on the trail from Logan Pass on the Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier Park.

We reached our destination at the overlook over the Hidden Lake. I liked the snow patches down to the edge of the lake, even in late summer. It is similar to the lakes we saw on the Carthew Trail north of here in Waterton Park.

Brenda and I had hiked to here on a 1993 trip as well.

The view at right is the opposite end of the lake.

The golden-mantled ground squirrels were undoubtedly very familiar with all the places where people stopped to look at things, and were likely to have a snack.

We now head back down the trail, and Elyse has hitched a ride with Uncle Mark.

At times the trail was downright crowded, which was understandable for such a beautiful trail on this wonderfully clear day.

I kept getting way behind the rest of the family since I was so easily distracted by ground squirrels and such.

In this land of abundant grass and flowers, I could envision the fat marmot breaking out in the olf "Porgy and Bess" tune: "Sum-mer-time, and the livin' is easy".

Most of the flowers were asters, yellow daisies, or indian paintbrush.

There were vast stretches of asters, this collection stretching into the distance to where the mountain drops off out of view.

When we headed down from Logan Pass we ran into a full fledged traffic jam on the Going-to-the-Sun Road.
