Celebrating Elyse's 15th Birthday
December 26
After our Christmas celebration at the Moyle's, we arrive at Elyse's birthday on the 26th. For us older folk, it brings back the memories of that birth on one of the extremely rare ice days in the New Orleans area and we retell the tales of that memorable day.
The birthday girl gets to choose the restaurant for a family meal, so Elyse chose the Sogo Japanese Restaurant in Slidell. With this big grill in front of us, the food was to be cooked right there!

After a couple of seating iterations, Ashleigh, Elyse and Jordan at the other end of the table, with a view of the sizable restaurant behind them. I think there were five of these large grill and table combinations.
| We had our dedicated cook, who had a sense of fun and the dramatic. |
He lit the oil on the grill in front of us - this is to be entertainment as well as food! He did make it a fun occasion.
The first stage was cooking noodles and rice, and he gave us some very tasty fried rice. The next stage was the cooking of the vegetables.
| He carefully seasoned the noodles and vegetables as he cooked them and they were quite tasty. Certainly freshly cooked! |
We all got the same vegetables - our choice from the menu was that of the meat to combine with it. Our choices were seafood, chicken and steak. I was impressed to watch him stage things so that the chicken got cooked hotter and longer - an appreciated safety factor which made me see that he was a real cook and not just an entertainer. It was indeed a fine meal and a fun family occasion.
| When we got home from dinner, we continued the celebration with a chocolate pie and ice cream. Jeff drags out a tiny blowtorch - that definitely should light the candles! |
Grandma and Granddad didn't want to miss out on this part of the birthday celebration.
