Ashleigh Receives Her White Coat at LSU Medical School

October 16, 2021

We watched with pride online as Ashleigh received her White Coat. Ashleigh is in her second year of medical school, and the white coat is traditionally given to first year students, but with the Covid crisis, it was delayed into the second year.

The ceremony serves to welcome students to healthcare practice and elevate the value of humanism as the core of healthcare. It provides a powerful emphasis on compassion in combination with scientific excellence. Generally some version of the Hippocratic Oath is taken in the ceremony.

Some "icon" of medical practice is typically given, and for LSU it is the stethescope.
