Upgrading the Kubota with a Boxblade

August 19, 2022

On Friday, Jeff and Rod made the trip to Poplarville, MS, about 30miles up I-59, to get a new boxblade for the Kubota tractor. It weighs several hundred pounds, so loading it was an adventure. Brought forward on a forklift, it was then tied on an extended fork lift with a heavy strap.

With the big strap, it was carefully lifted to the back of Darla's long-bed pickup. Once suspended, it could be guided, and just barely fit into the length of the bed.

Getting the boxblade unloaded from the pickup was also a bit of an adventure. Jeff brought out the Kubota and linked a chain around the boxblade on the truck blade and then lifted it carefully. I drove the truck out from under it and he sat it down on the pavement of the lot by the house.

Then Jeff was able to attach the boxblade to the tractor with the three points of support, and then he was able to lift it. It is quite an impressive tool. It has the six plows which are adjustable in height. At the bottom back it has two blades, one facing forward and one backward. I was quite impressed with that - you can grade and smooth forward, or you can operate the tractor in reverse and the backward-facing blade acts like a bulldozer.

Jeff was off on his first run with his new tool. He started with the plows down to break up some of the ground on their turnaround loop, which he plans to turn into lawn. He spent time running with blades down, and then with blades up to smooth a good bit of the ground in front of the house and off to the left side. It certainly seemed to work very well.
