Washington, D.C.

Smithsonian Museum of Natural History

June 10, 2002

When Rod's meeting was over on Tuesday afternoon, we got the opportunity to go to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, Rod's favorite of the museums. The huge elephant in the lobby was an old friend from previous visits, but the mineral exhibit was brand new. We had been disappointed on our last trip to Washington because the mineral exhibit was closed for renovation. The section of quartz above right is one of the hundreds of beautiful mineral samples on display.

This was one of the specimens of gold on display. Rod spent the whole afternoon with his video camera taking pictures of minerals for a minerals section in HyperPhysics.
