Maui and Paia Beach

June 25, 2018

After our marathon day yesterday, we took things a lot easier on Monday. Brenda and I had our wonderful breakfast in the Skyline dining room, and Jeff and Darla exercised before breakfast in the Aloha buffet dining area. We headed out after breakfast and traveled a short distance eastward from Kahului to the little town of Paia and the Paia Beach. Jeff had asked a member of the crew where they went when they went to a local beach - good strategy!

Paia Beach is associated with a small community center of Paia and the parking lot was right on Hwy 36 that we had traveled yesterday. From the parking lot it was maybe fifty yards to the beach. You could see the end of the tip of land that extends on the far side of Kahului.

A short sand path led from the parking area to the beach. Jeff and Darla are ready to test the waves.

The bathhouse and all facilities were clean and well kept. We took our towels, etc. and settled in on a big log on the beach for a relaxing time.

Brenda, Darla and Jeff prepare to test the surf.

Looking at the housing on the point at the end of the beach, it was not hard to imagine that we were in Hawaii.

Brenda went for a walk along the length of the beach.

Darla and Jeff go for some waves.

Brenda had time to sun a little and walk on the sand and in the surf.

Part of my agenda was to follow this Mynah bird in the parking lot to get him to pose for a portrait. He didn't seem too enthusiastic about it.

After our time on the beach, we spent a relaxed time exploring Paia, which has many shops and restaurants. We had lunch at a Mediterranian restaurant there and then turned in the rental car and relaxed a bit in the afternoon on the ship.
