MasterSingers Concert with Suzanne

April 25, 2019

We drove Suzanne down to Russellville, Arkansas, about 140 miles from Newport, for the concert of the Master'Singers group in which she has sung for a number of years. The above photo was taken during the performance. Suzanne is about at the middle of the frame, fourth from left on the second row from the back.

The concert was held at the First Baptist Church of Russellville. It is a large church sitting within three or four blocks of the historic downtown area of Russellville. The sanctuary is only two to three years old, and the whole complex looks like a thriving church in that downtown area - very encouraging. The symbol on the sign was seen at many locations on the campus, and I found that it was just an artistic impression of the round stained-glass window which can be found on the front of the original sanctuary just west of the new one.

The set of pictures below is a sweep left-to-right across the choir during the concert.

The women were on the left in alternating voice parts. Suzanne, a 2nd Alto, was between a 1st Alto and a high soprano.

Moving toward the center, this picture includes the left side of the orchestra.

The middle section with both women and men, with the piano and orchestra.

On the right was the men's section and the right side of the orchestra with two electronic keyboards included.

The right side portion of the men's chorus.

The orchestra started the concert with two numbers and played while the choir entered.

Of course we were partial to the section where Suzanne was.

The men's chorus did one number. The men's and women's choruses sometimes do separate events. Each had a number in this program.

The program at this fine church was magnificent and worshipful. We enjoyed the concert, but had enjoyed the day there beforehand. Suzanne had to be there at 12:30 and spent most of the afternoon in rehearsals. We attended some of the rehearsal sessions, which were quite enjoyable. They were similar to our intense rehearsals in New York, so it brought back a lot of memories of that experience. After the concert, we had the drive back to Newport, arriving after 11pm, so we were glad we could provide the ride back for Suzanne since she had had such an intense day. She and Brenda got to visit a lot on both trips.
