Copperhead by Railroad Track

April 27, 2019

It wasn't two hours after writing a childhood reflection about encountering a copperhead on this path seventy years ago that I walked toward the railroad track and encountered this beauty. It was quite calm and tolerated my cautious picture taking.

I was surprised that the head was not more triangular, but you can see the bulge behind the eyes which I take to be the venom glands.

I walked around to get a different angle on him. The head does show a more triangular shape from this angle. He was apparently getting more upset because he flattened out his body. I talked with Brent and Mandi and they said they had seen several copperheads, even on on the porch.
