Beginning of the Front Porch Roof

January 4, 2022

One of the first projects of the new year at Radio Road was the beginning of the front porch roof structure. That structure was to be mounted on the base posts that Jeff and Darla had constructed after laying the block structure for the pouring of the front porch. With the help of Brandon Moore, who had assisted with getting the tall steel antennas down, they started the fabrication of the steel framework from the triangular steel sections cut from the big antennas. Brandon is a welder and a member of Northshore Church with them. At upper left Jeff is drilling into the solid concrete header and then was able to screw in a concrete screw receptacle for mounting the steel sections. Then they made use of the Kubota to hold up a steel section to mount to the wall.

Next was the mounting of sections of the antenna metal stock to the posts and welding on a horizontal member on top.

With the help of the Kubota for lifting and support, horizontal beams to the wall have been mounted and are now being welded to the longer member.

The first stage of the porch roof structure has been mounted and welded into place as evening falls.

A perspective view of this day's work in mounting and welding part of the porch frame. It shows the storage shed where the Kubota is now safely stored, and shows the nice concrete front porch floor.

Now in daylight, Jeff and Darla celebrate the strength of the antenna-steel framework by hanging on it.
