Mountains Around Lynn Ogwen

This view of the mountains is from the east end of Llyn Ogwen. "Llyn" is the Welsh word for lake. Note the stone wall which winds its way around the mountain. The number of stone walls across the fields was amazing, albeit somewhat less so when you realized that they have had almost a thousand years to build them. We visited Llyn Ogwen a number of times since it was on one of our favorite routes, the trip through Nant Ffrancon.

Peaks from the Nant Ffrancon. "Nant" is the Welsh word for valley. From the valley we are looking up at the snow covered peaks. I think the center peak is Mynydd Perfedd at 2665 feet. The mountains seem much higher and more rugged than their modest heights would suggest, partly because they start at essentially sea level.
