125th Anniversary, Mableton First Baptist

October 13-14, 2012

We enjoyed a two-day celebration of the heritage of Mableton First Baptist Church, started in 1887 and chronicled in the church history.

The celebration began with an open house from 2-4pm on Saturday, October 13 with a fellowship meal and then a musical celebration service in the evening. A memorabilia room and displays around the church celebrated the church's history. Then on Sunday morning we had a celebration worship service with Dr. Steve Echols delivering the message. That was followed by a large fellowship meal which filled the fellowship hall and the tent which had be set up outside for that purpose.

On October 13, the day began early for Alex and Chip Ayres, who were smoking chicken for this whole group for the open house on Saturday.

The fellowship hall was prepared with tables for food service, with tables for eating in the fellowship hall, breezeway and the tent.

The tent set up on the lower parking lot helped handle the crowd for the Sunday Homecoming meal.

We set up a memorabilia room and one of the items in it was the quilt which was provided by Kim Daniell-White. Her mother, Elsie Daniell, had the quilt and wrote the note at right about the quilt.

Other items in the memorabilia room were historical photographs and copies of the First Baptist Church "Witness" for many years that had been carefully placed in notebooks by Sue Daniell.

There were photo albums and scrapbooks, and a section from one of the windows on the red brick church that had been built in the early 1930's.
