No Handout Too Large for Squirrel

No handout is considered too large for the hardy golden mantled ground squirrels of Teton National Park. This squirrel is taking on half an apple core. One in Grand Canyon ran off with a whole apple. This enterprising squirrel was found at the Jenny Lake overlook. August 23, 1982.

This golden mantled ground squirrel was not going to miss any opportunity for a handout from a passing hiker. We are on a trail in Teton National Park.

We caught the boat ferry across Jenny Lake. From the boat landing we hiked up to an overlook and got great views across the lake and further into the mountains. Finger Lake was alongside the trail.

As in all the national parks, the squirrels were anxious to be fed. On this trail, we found that all we had to do to attract a squirrel was to work the zipper on one of our backpacks. That sound brought squirrels from all directions. August 23, 1982.

We hiked a nice trail beside a rushing stream and up into the mountains to an overlook.
