Philippe's Graduation

June 5, 1965

Gathering to honor Philippe on the occasion of his graduation from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Jim Boggs, Dorothy Tirey, Mary Sue and Philippe, Mother Naomi Nave. I had ridden to Newport with Laddie Rollins, who was going to Hot Springs for a wedding and dropped me off in Newport on the way.

On Sunday, June 6, Philippe and Mary Sue headed for Baton Rouge, LA where he was to work for the summer. Laddie picked me up and we headed back for Atlanta. It was raining, and about 70 miles out of Memphis on Hwy 72 near Walnut, MS we spun the car out and turned over and slid about 30 feet down a ditch on the top. I was asleep in the back seat and Laddie had his seatbelt on. We both came out without a scratch. We hitch-hiked to Decatur, AL and caught a bus to Atlanta.
