Titanite

CaTiSiO5

These samples of titanite are displayed in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. Titanite is a silicate mineral of titanium and calcium. Its composition is CaTiSiO5. This sample is about 9x9 cm and is from Bagrot, Northern Areas, Pakistan. This sample is described as titanite (the green crystal) with orthoclase and calcite.

These titanite gems are 14.4, 8.9 and 6.4 carats and are from Madagascar.

The titanite sample at right is about 8x8 cm and is from Litchfield Township, Quebec, Canada.


These titanite gems range from 0.8 to 9.3 carats.

The titanite sample at left is about 6x8 cm. It and the 5.2 carat gem are from Baja, California, Mexico.
