Wavellite

Al3(PO4)2(OH,F)3 .5H2O

This sample of wavelike is displayed in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. Wavellite is a phosphate mineral of aluminum with high fluorine content with the composition Al3(PO4)2(OH,F)3.5H2O. The sample at left is about 6x9 cm and is from Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Named in 1805 for William Wavell (1750 - 1829), a physician in Harwood Parish, Devonshire, England, who discovered the mineral.

This Wavellite sample is about 6x10 cm and is from Ronneburg, Thuringen, Germany.
