Awana at Mableton First Baptist

July 6, 2022

Melissa Little does the story time, and the boys and girls enjoyed the session. We went to the playground for the last few minutes, and the children seemed particularly happy this evening.

We had a large group this night and several new boys and girls. It seems we got some from this years VBS.

We started Awana with snacks and Bible groups, where each group had a bible question to answer from the Bible reference verses provided.

We had three Sparks awards this evening. Two were first-time vests received for completing Flight 3:16, reciting John 3:16. The third was for added jewels for learned bible verses.

Our lesson this evening was about service, which was appropriate since we were going to put them into service unpacking the backpacks which our church was going to give out to students at Mableton Elementary.

The boys and girls and leaders got busy unpacking the backpacks from the boxes so that we could pray over them on Sunday and pack them with school supplies to distribute.

After unpacking a sizable stack of backpacks, the boys and girls carried them to the sanctuary to place on the front steps. Our Awana leaders helped supervise this process.

The 250 backpacks we had to distribute were stacked on the front steps of the sanctuary. On Sunday the congregation was going to join to pray over them, then pack them.

Producing the long stack of backpacks was a time of work and playfulness for the young ones.

Finishing up the collection of backpacks. It made an impressive display at the front of the church.

We are proud of our growing number of students from Spanish-speaking families.

On Sunday morning, members of the congregation carried packs to be filled by the youth department. This was in preparation for distribution to students at Mableton Elementary School on Thursday, July 28.

After the worship service the church members carried the packs by the boxes of supplies to be filled. They included a Bible and invitations to the church.

On this, the last day for this year's Awana, two 2nd graders receive Sparks awards and can take their vests and books home with them.

Two 5th graders from the Truth & Training group are now at the point of advancing to the youth department.

The fifth graders receive gifts to celebrate their advancement. The year-end celebration for the entire group was a very large nice cake.
