Visit from Jeff and Darla

July 20-23, 2022

Jeff and Darla drove up and arrived at about 8:30pm on July 20. Rod was just arriving back from Awanas and choir practice at the church, so we had a good time to visit on Wednesday evening.

We had a relaxing day of visiting on Thursday the 21st. Marty had taken the day off so Jeff and Darla got to spend time with him. We were preparing for a family dinner to celebrate Rod's 83rd birthday, and Mark was able to join us at about 6:30 so we were in the process of preparing the dinner.

They prepared a wonderful dinner of ribs and Rod was very blessed to have Jeff and Darla and Mark with us for the birthday celebration.

It's always good to have Marty Dye to join us; we consider him part of the family. It was a very enjoyable time.

Happy 83rd Birthday, Rod!

Jeff and Marty are typically looking for projects. This time Marty had a big thick table top which had been broken in the middle. They sawed it into two pieces to make a cutting board for Marty's sink, and a "cutting board junior" to move around easily. Jeff took the other half home for some use. I was pleased that the table saw and Skil saw got some good use.

Actually, their first project was the replacement of the switch/dimmer at the bottom of our basement stair - the switch was arcing and failing after 30 years of use. Fortunately, I had bought a replacement which was sitting on my desk, so they jumped on that project and replaced the switch.

The next thing Jeff looked at was the ugly hole in the bedroom ceiling where the sheetrock had been deteriorated by an electrical box that was heating up. Looking at the deteriorating wires remaining, Jeff took on the task of replacing all that wiring by runing new wire and doing all the connections in a new metal box in the attic (shown at left) and running a single romex line down to the light box. That made the light wiring safer and the large cover he put over the hole in the sheetrock made a very nice looking repair.

We enjoyed breakfast time together on Saturday, June 23, and had our family prayer of goodbye. We look forward to the next time we can be together.
