Awana Celebration

May 18, 2022

We gathered in the sanctuary on Wednesday night for our annual Awana Celebration. Lonnie leads the pledge to the American flag as we start the occasion with our usual Awana opening ceremony. Lonnie's green shirt identifies him as part of the Truth and Training Awana curriculum for grades 3-5.

Our opening ceremony includes the three pledges, the pledges to the American flag and the Awana flag, and then the pledge to the Bible, which Lonnie is leading above. Then Becky Ridgway gives awards to two of the students in the Sparks curriculum.

Then awards are given to two students in the T&T curriculum at right. These are brothers at different levels in the curriculum.

These four students received awards for learning and reciting of scripture verses. This is the pattern followed in our weekly Awana meetings.

This spring we were delighted to have some hispanic families join us in Awana.

This year they called up the Awana leaders in order of number of years of work with Awana. L-R Rod Nave, Billy and Elaine Ridgway, Johnny Huffman, Donna Rosser, Wanda Willey, Melissa Little, Lorraine Shaw, Barbara Porter, Brenda Speight, Bob Wade (at edge).

The youngest Awana group is the Cubbies. They receive their certificates for Awana. Their leaders are Donna Rosser and Wanda Willey.

Starting with the Sparks group, this is the kindergarten and Grade 2 group. The leaders are Billy Ridgway and Melissa Little.

Four Grade 2 Sparks are added to the Sparks group, with the older brother of one standing in for her. The leaders are Billy Ridgway, Melissa Little, Barbara Porter, and Rod Nave.
Individual awards for accomplishments are now being given out to Sparks students.

Achievement awards are presented for outstanding work.

Awards are based on the learning and reciting of scripture verses and demonstrating understanding of them.

The boys and girls were excited to get their certificates for Awana.

We hope the signed certificates can be a remembrance of the learning experience.

The special Sparky Award is given for outstanding achievement.

We now move to the older Truth & Training division for awards.

Awards and prizes are given out to the Truth and Training division of Awana. Leaders are Elaine Ridgway, Brenda Speight, Bob Wade, and Johnny Huffman.

At the end of the award ceremony, the students and their families were invited to go to the children's room, the Depot, where the Awana Store had been set up. The students each had a number of points that they had earned in their scripture study throughout the year, so that they could redeem those points for the items in the store. The members of the Youth department were there to man the store and provide the prizes that the students chose.
