Continuing Porch Construction at Radio Road

March 23, 2022

Continuing the construction of the angular parts of the steel porch roof framing required some positioning framework to accurately locate the steel peak of the roof.

Positioning these angular pieces required careful positioning, and it was high! The high vertical lift they were using was invaluable, but still gave us some things to pray about for Jeff's safety up at those heights.

Whew! At least this is not so high off a concrete floor, but even in the attic Jeff has to be up on a lift platform to saw holes for vent fans. This center structure will house the end of the peak steel piece of the porch roof.

At least in this large attic, Jeff has room to position his lift table and tools to complete the sawing of these two holes. Note the bolted framework for part of the porch roof.

An impressive steel roof structure has taken form with the three top steel antenna sections being anchored firmly to the peak of the house roof. The two vent fans have been placed to provide some ventilation for the attic of the large house.

Note the additional steel that has been added to the perimeter of the steel antenna sections.

This vertical view shows in more detail how the top three steel structure that form the peak of the porch roof are attached to the house beside the new vent fans.

An exciting beginning of the actual roof with solid wooden decking. The high lift continues to be a great asset in the construction.

This view shows the metal beams that have been placed for the attachment and support of the roof decking.

One side of the roof decking is nearing completion. It is a neat structure with the use of the triangular antenna sections as structure and the smooth steel joists for support of the roof decking.

Looks like they were working late this day. It gives an interesting view of the steel joists and the nature of the deck planks.

April 14

Looks like one side of the decking is essentially finished. The photo time of 8:20pm explains how they could get a picture of the Moon like that. Everything is shaping up with the roof.

Nice view that one side of the roof decking, and the Moon.

Jeff and Jay are working on the roof decking down the other side. This photo is at about 5:30 pm.

This looks like a fitting picture for the end of a long days work. A beautiful setting for the developing roof. It also has appropriate images of two of the antenna structures which are characteristic of this former major transmitting facility. These antennas will be remembered in the structure of this unique porch roof. The time indicated was 7:20pm.

Beginning the re-roofing of the main building, Radio Road
