Hubert Yockey

An information theorist who, according to Donald Johnson, specificcally distances himself from the ID proponents. But many of his findings are in line with the tenets of ID.

"Since no code exists to transfer information from protein sequences to mRNA, it is impossible for the origin of life to be 'protein first'."

"Information Theory, Evolution, and the Origin of Life, 2005"

"The genetic information system operates without regard for the significance or meaning of the message, because it must be capable of handling all genetic messages of all organisms, extinct and living, as well as those not yet evolved...The genetic information system is the software of life and, like the symbols in a computer, it is purely symbolic and independent of its environment." p7

"it is mathematically impossible, not just unlikely, for information to be transferred from the protein alphabet to the mRNA alphabet." p23.

"Overlapping genes are a manifestation of the use of the full information content of the DNA sequence to record and transcribe genetic messages. This phenomenon shows that the source can drive two or even three channels of transcription with appropriate algorithmic instruction." p92.

"the origin of life, like the origin of the universe is unknowable. But once life has appeared, Shannon's Channel Capacity Theorem... assures us that the genetic messages will not fade away...without the assistance from an Intelligent Designer." p181.

"Scientists cannot get around it by clever chemistry. this restriction prevails in spite of [what] the concentration of protein in a 'prebiotic soup' might have been or may be on some 'Earth-like' planet elsewhere in the universe." p182

About the publication of the Miller-Urey paper "asked Destiny for confirmation of their faith. The editors of the Journal Science did not realize that they were publishing religious apologetics" p 186

"It is important to understand that we are not reasoning by analogy. The sequence hypothesis (that the genetic code works essentially like a book) applies directly to the protein and the genetic text as well as to a written language and therefore the treatment is mathematically identical." [Quoted by Lennox on pg 174 of God's Undertaker as part of his defense against Hume's analogy attack.]
