December Snow

December 8-9, 2017

An extraordinary long narrow band of snowclouds traveled to the northeast across Atlanta. The entire length of the band went through Atlanta and roughly up I-85. So places 50 miles off that line got no snow at all. Snow started on December 8 and continued until the next day, leaving probably 10 inches of snow at places in our back yard. Mostly it was about 6 inches, but it was soft and stuck to the trees and bushes.

It was a surprising amount of snow for December.

The Japanese maple tree in front of the house was quite spectacular, its thin limbs collecting the fluffy snow.

Ordinary bare limbs became works of art with the covering of soft snow.

Adding blue sky behind the snowcovered limbs made it look even more magical.

You would think that this was a chalet in Switzerland rather than a rooftop in Georgia!

Snow art!

It's not often that the rooftops in our neighborhood look like this!

Ordinary views under extraordinary conditions. A corner gutter with over 6 inches of snow and the view out our back window.

The trees across the street that had just lost their leaves now have a coating of snow.
