December Snow
December 8-9, 2017
An extraordinary long narrow band of snowclouds traveled to the northeast across Atlanta. The entire length of the band went through Atlanta and roughly up I-85. So places 50 miles off that line got no snow at all. Snow started on December 8 and continued until the next day, leaving probably 10 inches of snow at places in our back yard. Mostly it was about 6 inches, but it was soft and stuck to the trees and bushes.
It was a surprising amount of snow for December.
| The Japanese maple tree in front of the house was quite spectacular, its thin limbs collecting the fluffy snow. |
Ordinary bare limbs became works of art with the covering of soft snow.
| Adding blue sky behind the snowcovered limbs made it look even more magical. |
You would think that this was a chalet in Switzerland rather than a rooftop in Georgia!
| Snow art! |
It's not often that the rooftops in our neighborhood look like this!
| | Ordinary views under extraordinary conditions. A corner gutter with over 6 inches of snow and the view out our back window. |
| The trees across the street that had just lost their leaves now have a coating of snow. |
